Mainline has a solution. Last month we touched on a number of challenges facing packers in the New Year; Coverage requirements under the Affordable Care Act will affect more businesses, in particular those with 50 or more employees. Minimum wage has gone up in fourteen states, and a number of state and local jurisdictions have passed new regulations that directly and indirectly affect business owners in this country. To top it off, many areas are experiencing labor shortages, and many knowledgeable observers expect that trend to grow. Let's face it, costs are going up but we are here to help you push back on the financial pressure. Simple but effective automated packaging equipment can help keep your costs down and protect your margins. This newsletter shows a real-life example of how we helped a client transition from hand-packing produce in pouches into an automated system for a very low cost.
Our customers previously packed many products such as mini peppers, brussels sprouts, clementines, lemons and potatoes by hand. Their need for an economical and flexible system for packing a wide range of products for their business led them to us.
Our solution. This video shows an automated line that is used for packing a wide array of both fresh produce and non-fresh items. At the time of the video they were packing clementine's and were later going to be changing the product to brussel sprouts. The line includes a sorting conveyor, and infeed conveyor (with hopper), a two-head linear scale, a Mustang pouch machine, an outfeed conveyor, and an accumulation table. The system is used for multiple pack weights and pouch sizes, and the components are electronically controlled so settings can be saved and recalled on the touch screen control panels for quicker changeovers.
If you are currently hand packing but are interested in seeing how automation will work for you call us at (559) 636-9600 and we'd be glad to help!
